Do People Understand The Importance and Real Meaning Of Wellbeing? Turns Out No
Most people consider “not being sick”, “being well”! That’s not true.
Not being sick, doesn’t mean you are functioning optimally and that you’re thriving.
A recent study (2022) claimed only that less than 7% of American adults have optimal metabolic health.
The rest?
At risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
Suffering from all sorts of signs and symptoms. Like many in my family. Being overweight and feeling shortness of breath, joint pain, fatigue and mood swings…Taking multiple medications. And they are “ok”…
Why is this happening?
Due to lack of awareness, education and understanding of what one can do to achieve optimum health and wellbeing.
Wellbeing is a healthy lifestyle beyond acute illness
It’s to a state of physical, emotional and mental health in which you have the ability and energy to do what you want to do in life. (John W. Travis Wellness Illness Continuum)
As a functional medicine health coach, I learn about the science of creating health and a broader spectrum of a well-lived life. And about the fact that people can have an influence on it. Responding to what their body needs and giving it a good care.
Wellbeing is not a static state
Reflecting on this research, being part of the majority doesn’t mean you can’t turn it around. It’s not much about where you are on this journey right now, but which direction you’re facing.
Towards chronic disease or optimum wellness?
