Most People Set Goals When Starting Out Their Health Journey: Here’s Why That’s Wrong

“Most people” do what “most people” do. When they first start their health journey, they set goals.

Which leads to…

  • Falling off track and hitting dead ends

  • Feeling overwhelmed and demotivated

  • Negative self-talk and self-blame

  • Comparison and all-or-nothing thinking …

Clearly what “most people do” doesn’t work. So do something else. Instead:

Set your intention and define your long-term vision

Think about it and imagine the healthiest 80-year-old you can be.

  • What will it look like?

  • How will your life be different on a daily, yearly, and long-term basis if you integrate healthier habits?

  • How much more will you accomplish?

Internalising your “why” is essential for staying motivated to pursue any health goal

  • Is it for increased energy and vitality?

  • Is it reduce the risk of chronic illness?

  • Is it to be able to keep up with our loved ones when you age?

Whatever your reason, hold onto it and let it be your motivation as you work towards your health goals.

After taking a big picture view of your Circle of Life, find that ultimate goal that you want to walk towards and understand why it is important for you to put it in place.

This is the foundation of any wellness plan.

For me, it’s about living better “adding life to my years”, not being depended on others suffering the last 10 years of my life. I want to see the world, scale my impact and connect with people. So, what’s your WHY for getting healthy?
